I'm not quite sure why i am posting, only that I've had the inclination to before going to bed after a long day of work. I work at a subway and even though I've been getting 40 hours a week, the actual time put in is close to 50 a week. Why is it like that? It's because i'm an opener, normally it shouldn't be such a pain but the store I'm at puts way too much pressure on openers. Openers during the first half hour before a store opens (In my case it's 6:30-7:00 am on mondays, and hour later on saturdays, and two hours later on sundays) are expected to verify all money and inventory counts, have soup ready, deli's bakeing, bread proofing, meatballs cooked and rost chicen cooked. after that we have till 11am on any given day (4 hours monday, 3 hours saturday and 2 hours sunday) to get all the ingediants preped and server customers as well as have most of the bread baked along with enough cookies for the day(no helper what so ever).

There really is no way to get it all done in the time given which forces and opener to go in early, sometimes by two hours in order to get everything done on time since it's one hell of a workload especially with serving customers on top of it. The people who come in at 11 are to help with the rush and clean the customer area as well as fill sauses, they won't help with prep and will expect if you are running behind to continue helping customers even though they should be takeing that load off so that prep can finish ASAP.
Then there is my manager, she comes in at 9:30 on weekdays, the time when a prep helper is most needed and instead of serving customers dose paperwork (no helping much) and complains if prep isn't done on time. *sighs* can't win. then there is the fact that she is reluctant to get anything fixed or looked at and is misinformed on what minimum wage actually is. I had told her that the hotplate for doing breakfest wasn'y working and she didn't beliveme, it toook a few days untill it would no longer work for her that she finally got the drift, she still hasn't done anything about the electric curren that seems to be running though the preptable and metal counter out front, and she thought minimum wage was 7.50 instead of 7.60 wich it's actually at.
Customers don't help any, thw worst type are those who don't know what they want or decide changes last second, those who try to push for more without paying extra and those who are either too quiet or mumble. Fist off, those that don't know what they want waste valuable time, those who expect you to read thier minds only make it take longer when they should have ordered exactly what they wanted when they order instead of saying oh can you ad this or I had wanted this at the last moment. If a customer is too quiet they take more time to serve because thier voice can't be heard over then fans, same gose whith those who mumbles because thier voices blend with the fans, if we can't hear you properly how can we serve you?. Those that push are very wrong in the assumtion the customer is always right, the truth of the matter is we have portioning rules, if they don't want to pay the extra they will have to live with it.
To top it all off I have a university course, and with it the weekly homework.
Between work, sleep and homework, not to mention attention needy BF. I find myself with very little time to do as I like :( There are some points where I feel like I'm just going to collapse and other times when there is too much to do I have to go without sleep. Even worse is there are alot of times when I plan ahead to chat with online friends but something comes up or the BF decides to take up the time that i had allocated for other things. :( I'm temped to quit since I doupt I'll get any reduced hours since none of the new people last more then a week.
that's it for my rant for now... need sleep
